Transferring Files from Old Computer to New Computer

If you purchase a new computer and would like to have access to all the Realfast forms that you prepared on your previous computer, you will need to transfer the data from your old computer to your new one.  You can transfer the files with a zip drive, a network drive, a writeable CD, floppy disks, or by e-mailing them to your new computer.

To complete the successful transfer of all your files and folders to your new computer, you will need to know how to copy and paste files, store them on a disk and retrieve them from your new computer.  If you are unfamiliar with how to complete these tasks, please call Realfast Customer Service at 1-800-571-0277 and have a Realfast representative walk you through it.
*  All of these folders and files can be found in the hard drive of your computer.  To access these files:

  • Right click on the Start button on your desktop
  • Click on Explore
  • Click on your (C:) drive [Local Disk (C:)] and locate the Rfwin folder.  This is where all the components of the Realfast program are stored.  The files and folders below can be found by double clicking on the Rfwin folder and then double clicking on the Data folder.

Files to Copy Over:

1.  The Logon Name Folder for each user (which will be named by their logon name) - this contains all the forms that they had previously written and saved.  The user will need to have the same logon name on the new computer in order to access these files.

2.  ADMIN folder - this contains master contract information.  If this file is empty, there is no reason to transfer it over.

3.  Clauses.db - this is the clause library.  If the user did not have any clauses stored in the computer - there is no need to transfer this over.  If the clause.db file is bigger than 1KB, there are clauses on this computer and this file needs to be transferred.

4.  Users.db - this is the users database - The only reason you would want to transfer this file is if you are transferring this information for a company that has a lot of users.  If the file was transferred over, it would save you for having to individually add the users again.  For a single user however, you would not need to transfer this because your user id will be re-created when you install the program on your new computer.

5.  Logo (which would be a loose file in the DATA folder. It would be the only bitmap (bmp) file in this folder and will be a 6-digit number (the same as your registration number).

6.  Form Set Folder (i.e. NCNCA, COCOL, PAPAR, FLFAR etc.) - this folder would contain all the copies of the association forms.  This includes the old versions of the forms which you will need if you want to open previously written contracts.

7.  Group.db - this contains any master groups that have been created. If you do not have a group.db file, there have not set up master groups and can skip this step.

All of these files and folders will need to be placed in the same location in RFWIN on your new computer.
