Install Wizard Freezing on Download & Instructions for Window Updates

 

NOTE: This is a Windows 98 bug ONLY. This is a known bug and can usually be fixed by running your Windows Updates. Be advised, however, that Windows 98 will only be supported through June 2006 by Microsoft, and as a result, by Realfast as well. The Windows updates we speak of may not be available after that, so to be safe, be sure to run those immediately (instructions below).

When you are installing Realfast from the website, you may experience a problem where the task completion bar gets close to completion and then freezes.  The problem is caused by not being current with Windows Updates. There are two ways to solve this problem: 


Solution 1: Permanent Solution

This is the recommended solution, and the only solution that will solve the problem permanently.

  

  1. Make sure you are logged onto the internet. 
     
  2. Close out of all other programs on your computer. 
     
  3. Click on the Windows Start button (usually located at the lower left corner of your screen.)
     
  4. Then Select Windows Update usually located at the top of the Start Menu selections.
     
  5. In the Microsoft Windows Update screen, select Scan for Updates next to the green arrow.
     
  6. From the list of available updates, choose "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1".  During the installation, you have the option of either a compact or full installation (12MB and 18MB respectively).  Either one will work.
     

Note: It is recommended that you follow the instructions to run  all the critical Windows Updates. Running them on a regular basis will help avoid other types of security problems related to your system being outdated. This step could take some time and may need to be run multiple times until you have received all of the updates.

 

  1. Once it is finished, select Yes if asked if you'd like to reboot now.
      
  2. You should then be able to run the Realfast installation program successfully. 
      

Solution 2: Temporary Workaround to freezing problem.

Although this solution will allow to update your program, you will not have the ability to e-mail your forms in a pdf format until you complete Solution 1 above and re-download Realfast.

 

  1. Start the Realfast download by clicking download from www.realfast.com.
      
  2. When the InstallShield Wizard screen freezes, press CTRL-ALT-DEL, which will bring up the Close Program window.
      
  3. Highlight the task "RF_PDF_Install", and click End Task.  Click OK to confirm, if prompted.
      
  4. The Realfast installation Welcome screen will now appear.  Continue with the Realfast installation as usual.
